Baby Calves Wear Coats!

Coats Keep the Baby Calves Warm

In the winter, some of the calves on the dairy get to wear coats. We have wool coats for the little calves to help keep them warm. The warm coats help keep the little babies warm, and healthy. It’s critical to keep them warm. If the baby calves get sick, their growth could be stunted.

Luckily it doesn’t get too cold here in the winter. Sub-zero temperatures are unheard of, and we don’t even know what snow is. But occasionally it does reach freezing point. The babies have straw to keep them warm, but sometimes it’s not enough. So we give them a coat to help keep them warm.

Walden Wears a Coat

On November 23, 2011, little Walden was born. Walden is actually related to Wow Wow Wubbzy, Wubbzy Wubbzy Wow Wow. He is actually Wubbzy’s Nephew.

Walden definitely inherited Wubbzy’s good looks. All my sisters find him amazingly adorable!

My sister, Mary, is taking great care of him. Since he is so small, she put a coat on him. He was so happy that he started jumping around in his pen.

Like Wubbzy, Walden will probably go to the fair next year so my sister will start training him, and getting him ready. He has already grown quite a bit. Walden even learned how to drink milk out of his bucket all by himself. He doesn’t use a bottle anymore! So far Walden is keeping healthy, no doubt his warm wool coat is helping contribute to his fast growth and healthy vigor .
